Early in my career I met with Alex Bogusky of Crispin Porter Bogusky while I was living in Miami. He asked me what I liked about being an art director. I told him I loved staring at a blank piece of paper, and filling it with ideas. We geeked out.
He told me he loved the struggle of concepting – that moment when you have ideas, but they aren’t great yet. I didn’t need to ask him why. I understood.
‘‘You can't get to courage without the rumbling of vulnerability. Embrace the Suck.’’
That’s Brené Brown, of course, and her words sum up perfectly how I feel about facing a blank page.
You have to embrace the suck – that is, the bad ideas, the half-baked ones – to get to the great ones.
Right now in business, we’re facing a giant blank page.
It’s business as “unusual” at the moment, and hiding out just isn’t an option. Because when businesses reopen, it still won’t be business as usual. You’ve got to hit the ground running or get left behind.
Reaching out to customers at a time of social distancing is crucial. It’s never too early (or too late) to think how you’ll rebrand your business during this strange time.
A brand is the sum total of what the public experiences when they encounter your company. Your brand is everything – literally – it’s the company’s name, logo, website, social media, font type and colors, your mission, vision, values, your employees and even what your last customer said to a friend. That’s your brand.
A good brand communicates what your company does and how it does it. A good brand also establishes trust and credibility with your prospects.
A really good brand turns your customers into fans.
But the fact is: your business will likely look different by the time of all this strangeness is “over.” So it’s important your branding is not only keeping up with this new normal but keeping up with your business as it evolves for the long-term.
In other words, you’ll want your brand to evolve alongside you. And we want to help!
